Oil Portrait Painting Tips 3
DRESSING YOUR SUBJECT
Discuss clothing with your portrait model before hand. Avoid high, bulky turtlenecks; small plaids and pinstripes; solid dark round-necked shirts, unless modified by a contrasting collar to break up the dark mass. Avoid strong colors that clash with the subjects skin color.
Select clothing with simple, flattering shapes and muted colors. Help your subject make choices by having them bring several clothing options.
